A highly attended and remarkably insightful symposium kicked off the three-day conference of the Italian Society of Corneal Transplantation (S.I.Tra.C.) in Florence last February 12–14. Opening the three days of proceedings within the ophthalmic surgeons’ assembly, SIBO brought together nearly a hundred biologists, eye bank specialists, and ophthalmologists to discuss the role of Eye Banking and its new frontiers.
The debate focused on the preparation of amniotic membrane, eye drops, and lyophilized membrane, as well as the latest advancements in corneal preservation and the potential development of CAIRS preparations.
An increasing amount of space in the discussion was also dedicated to research, ranging from the prospects of cell transplantation to the integration of Artificial Intelligence in the laboratory.
